Helping Colleges and Universities Control Risks through Advances in Whistleblower Hotline Solutions

EthicsPoint, a leading provider of ethics hotline and case management solutions, is a strategic partner with the Association of College and University Auditors (ACUA). EthicsPoint and ACUA work to promote enhanced governance of higher education institutions through implementation of best practices related to codes of conduct, whistleblower hotlines, and investigation of issues & events. EthicsPoint and ACUA jointly develop and implement educational programs and research projects that serve the needs of ACUA members. Additionally, members of ACUA are eligible for a special discount on EthicsPoint's services.

Though not currently mandated for higher education, critical elements of Sarbanes-Oxley are being incorporated into the governance processes of institutions of higher education. As governance processes become stronger and more refined, the role of the Internal Audit department is becoming more important and visible.

"Reporting practices in higher education institutions are becoming increasingly important. Greater levels of effectiveness are becoming a requirement," said Betsy Bowers, past president of ACUA and University Auditor for University of West Florida. "By bringing consistency to the approach with which the institution responds to ethics and compliance issues, an institution is able to achieve much more effective management of the risks that are unique to the higher education environment."

"Many higher education institutions are preparing not only for potential legislation, but are looking for effective ways to prevent high profile problems that can damage their reputation," said David Childers, CEO of EthicsPoint. "We are pleased to work with members of the ACUA community to participate in the development of best practices that help higher education institutions demonstrate fiscal responsibility and promote an environment of accountability."
