2003 Annual Meeting

Nashville Meeting
ACUA’s 47th Annual Conference
September 14-18, 2003
Nashville, TN

The Opening Reception featured cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, a carving station, and a salad bar. The main event, however, was the opportunity to network with peers and meet with the exhibitors. (For some, however, it was telling war stories and monopolizing those hors d'oeuvres.)

General sessions were held Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday, with the ACUA standard of attentiveness highly evident--for the most part.

Dale Henry

Dale Henry, motivational speaker and humorist, gave attendees a lot to think about and drove the points home with funny stories.

Michael Hoffman, Executive Director, Center for Business Ethics at Bentley College spoke about ethical leadership.

Rick Whitfield, Vice President, University of Pennsylvania, presented on the challenges faced by leaders at colleges and universities.

The exhibit hall provided attendees with direct access to ACUA’s supporting companies and organizations. For more information on our sponsors and exhibitors, go to http://www.acua.org/events/vec.cfm

Many of the exhibitors offered door prizes, and few attendees missed the chance to participate.

Presenters for the educational sessions provided many hours of great continuing education. Twenty-two hours of continuing education credit were available to those who attended the conference.

The member excellence awards were presented prior to Tuesday’s general session. David Coury (left photo) receives from Rob Clark, President, the ACUA Excellence in Service Award. David Crawford (right photo) receives from Rob Clark, the ACUA Outstanding Professional Contributions Award. ACUA presents these prestigious awards annually and selects the recipients from a field of nominations submitted by the ACUA membership.

The Annual Business Meeting was held on Wednesday. Rob Clark, 2003 President, presided over the meeting. Mary Barnett, 2004-2005 Secretary/Treasurer, presented the proposed 2004 budget and answered member questions.

Rob Clark presents the gavel to incoming President, Seth Kornetsky.

Seth Kornetsky, 2004 President, makes his inaugural address unveiling goals for the coming year.

A door prize drawing was held at the end of the meeting and Walt Brown, University of Utah, walked away with a Kodak digital camera. Congratulations, Walt!

The Wednesday night dinner and dance theme was 1950’s sock hop. The ladies in pink were dressed for the event and received extra raffle tickets towards door prize drawings for their efforts.

The ladies in pink weren’t the only ones dressing up for the event. Two attendees pose for the camera.

Leather coats, T-shirts with rolled sleeves, blue jeans, and slicked back hair were the attire most sported by the men. The women came dressed in peddle pushers (known today as capris), blue jeans, and poodle skirts - modeled in the photograph above.

ACUA means Family

Many attendees feel like they’re coming to a large family reunion when they come to the conferences - a chance to visit with colleagues and friends as one of the “ACUA Family” - well, family it is as this little one settles in for a nap while everyone else warms up for a few games and dancing.

Attendees had a great time participating in the presidential initiation for Seth Kornetsky who took office during the Annual Business Meeting.

Waving at the camera has become a tradition at our dinner dances. In the left photo, the attendees wave balloons but that wasn’t quite enough so they also waved their hands with ACUA’s new president taking center stage.
